Parents’ biggest mistake is when they see their kid is sleeping and his mouth is open Aww it looks cute. Yeah, it is but it is alarming that you shud notice every activity o our kids while sleeping. As parents, we are always concerned about our child’s health. One aspect that often being unnoticed how is our baby’s breathing. While mouth breathing mighseemms harmless it’s important to understand that nasal breathing is the natural and preferred way for babies to take in air. Let’s talk and try to understand why infant mouth breathing doe not considered normal and why we should pay attention to their breathing habits. Nasal breathing plays a crucial role in the proper development of an infant’s face and oral cavity. The act of breathing through the nose encourages the growth of the upper jaw which helps align the teeth and create a balanced facial structure. Mouth breathing on the other hand create dental issue in the child and misalignment of the jaw. Respiratory health is also disturbed as the nose serves as the natural filter and humidifier for the air entering the body. When the infant breathes through their nose the air is warmed d moistened before reaching the lungs. This reduces the chances of respiratory infection and discomfort caused by the unfiltered and cold air. Mouth breathing bypasses these important functions and makes infants more sensitive to catching any infection. Nasal breathing promotes deeper and most healthy sleep. During their sleep nose breathing allows efficient oxygen exchange and better quality sleep. While mouth breathing can lead an infant to snore and sleep disturbance. Which can have a negative and unhealthy impact on their health and development. Babies primarily breathe through their noses while breastfeeding or bottle feeding. Nasal breathing properly ensures that the mouth is properly sealed around the nipple preventing excessive air intake and promoting healthy feeding. On the other hand mouth breathing can lead to issues such as gas and colic baby. Mouth breathing can result in improper tongue placement affecting speech clarity and language skills as the child grows. In my opinion, If your child is constantly mouth-breathing you should consult a doctor as soon as possible.
